Sharks Day 2 Workout: Advanced Swim Drills and Sets

Training

This workout, designed for the 'Sharks' level, focuses heavily on refining technique, particularly side breathing, maintaining core buoyancy, and mastering specific positions (Position 1, Position 11). Remember to focus on quality over speed during the drills!

Warmup: Getting the Muscles Ready

Start by warming up the major muscle groups and activating key swimming patterns. Focus on feeling your body in the water and connecting with proper technique throughout these sets.

Question of the Day: Buoyancy Check

Before starting, take a moment to think about your center of buoyancy. Where is that balance point on your body? It should feel like it's just above your belly button.

1. Y = 50 Front Float on Surface: Spend 2 seconds floating on the surface, then execute a FLY kick to the bottom. Repeat, focusing on finding and maintaining your buoyancy every time you reach the surface.2. N = 50 Back Kick (BK K): Focus on keeping the hips high and using the core to maintain a stable back float.3. 4 x 25 on 1:00 FR K No board: Maintain strong kick technique without the aid of a board.

Main Set: Group Split Drills

Split into two groups to allow for focused coaching and individualized attention. The goal here is to build specific skills in isolation before combining them.

Group 1 Focus: Streamline and Side Breathing

Group 2 Focus: Lift and Flex

Cool Down & Connection Set

Once both groups are complete, gather back together for a final set designed to connect all the skills learned today. This is where endurance meets technique!

3. 3 x 50 on 2:00 (1 and 2 with F): Focus on side breaths and long Position 11 reaches. Remember, free kicks are not allowed here—keep the focus on the core stroke mechanics.4. 2 x SL + 1 BR Arms with breath + 1 BR K in 11: The goal is to reach at least half-way through the length. Crucially, there should be NO KICK of any kind during the initial streamline (SL). First, practice the arms alone, then add the kick underwater.5. 1 x Challenge Set: This final challenge set serves as a connection point, allowing you to apply all the skills learned throughout the day.

Coach's Tip: Always remember that the best swimmers are those who listen to their bodies and focus on the quality of every single stroke. If any drill feels too challenging, break it down into smaller segments!
