Parent & Tot Guide: Teaching Bubble Blowing in the Water

Parent Tot Activities

Teaching basic water skills like blowing bubbles is a fun, bonding experience for parents and toddlers. This activity helps build comfort and breath control in a playful setting.

Setup and Positioning

The Hold

 • Parent/Child Position: The child should be held by the parent while both are in the water.Holding Technique: Parent should hold the child like catching a football (thumbs on chest, fingers wrapped around near back).Child Engagement: Encourage the child to reach toward the parent with hands on shoulders if possible.

Safety Tip: Hold the child as close to the water surface as possible and keep them horizontal. The parent should lower their body so only their face is above water, maintaining constant supervision.

Teaching the Bubble Blow

Demonstrate and Encourage

 1. Parent Demonstration: The parent should first demonstrate blowing bubbles, making it a fun, visible action.Initial Attempt: Parent should encourage the child to put their lips in the water and blow.Guiding the Blow: Gently tilt the child down so their lips enter the water at least once. Smile and encourage blowing by parent demonstrating the action again.

Progression and Play

 • Movement: Parent should slowly walk backwards throughout the session. This helps the child associate the skill with movement and keeps the activity engaging.

Remember to keep the tone light and playful! Celebrate every bubble blow, no matter how small, to build positive associations with water.
