🏊‍♀️ What to Expect: The Tryout Script

This episode walks you through the typical flow of a swim team tryout. Whether your child is a beginner or an experienced swimmer, understanding the process helps reduce anxiety and prepares everyone for success!

The Assessment Flow

The coach-to-swimmer interaction is designed to assess multiple skills and techniques in a fun, structured way. Here is a breakdown of the key stages:

  • Initial Entry & Safety Check: The tryout begins with basic water entry skills, such as getting into the water and touching the bottom with a hand.
  • Freestyle/Front Crawl Assessment: Swimmers are asked to swim one length of front crawl (freestyle) while maintaining side breathing. This tests endurance and core freestyle technique.
  • Backstroke Proficiency: Next, the focus shifts to backstroke, requiring the swimmer to complete a full length back.
  • Skill Spot Checks: The coach will ask about specific skills, such as demonstrating the proper breaststroke kick or performing a butterfly dolphin wiggle while floating. These checks ensure foundational techniques are solid.
  • Conclusion: The session ends with positive reinforcement and guidance for the swimmer to talk to their parents, signaling the completion of the assessment.

🗓️ How and When Do We Schedule Tryouts?

We allow tryouts on a rolling basis at our club. You can try out for the developmental team at any point throughout the year. To secure your spot, we schedule rolling dates and times using our Online Lesson Management program (available for $9.99).
