Name
With two hands on the horizontal line of the + (mark on the wall), do 20 Flutter kicks staying underwater in position 11.
One-Liner
Swimmers perform 20 flutter kicks while holding the wall in a streamlined position 11, staying completely underwater.
Success Criteria
Complete 20 flutter kicks while maintaining position 11 underwater without coming up for air.
Failure Criteria
Coming up for air before completing 20 kicks, losing the streamlined position, or letting go of the wall.
Core Skill
Flutter kick technique and breath control while maintaining a streamlined body position.
Who
Intermediate swimmers who are comfortable holding their breath and performing flutter kicks underwater.
What
Swimmers hold the horizontal line of the + mark on the wall with both hands, then perform 20 flutter kicks while staying underwater in a streamlined position 11.
How
- Stand facing the wall and place both hands on the horizontal line of the + mark.
- Take a deep breath and submerge completely underwater.
- Extend your body into position 11 (arms straight overhead, body tight and streamlined).
- Begin performing flutter kicks with small, fast movements from the hips.
- Count each kick and complete 20 without coming up for air.
- Surface only after finishing all 20 kicks.
Difficulties Instructors Might Face
Some swimmers may struggle with breath control and need to surface early. Encourage them to take a deep breath before submerging and to relax. Others might lose their streamlined position; remind them to keep their core tight and legs straight. If a swimmer cannot complete 20 kicks, reduce the number and build up gradually.
