Swimming Game – Splash and Sing

Level 1Ages 3-6Face submersionBubble blowing

Name

Core Skill

This game helps 3-year-olds get comfortable putting their faces in the water and blowing bubbles.

Who

This game is suitable for 3-year-olds who are beginners or intermediate swimmers. It can be played with one or more children and an adult instructor or parent.

What

The children splash the water with their hands and sing a song of their choice. Then they put their faces in the water and blow bubbles while humming the same song.

How

The instructor or parent demonstrates how to splash the water with their hands and sing a song. Then they show how to put their face in the water and blow bubbles while humming the same song. They encourage the children to copy them and praise them for their efforts. The instructor or parent can also ask the children to guess what song they are humming when their face is in the water.

Difficulties Instructors Might Face

Some children may be hesitant to put their faces in the water. Start with just splashing and singing, then gradually encourage them to dip their chin or cheeks. Use lots of praise and keep the mood playful. If a child is very resistant, let them watch others first and try again later.

To make the game more challenging, the instructor or parent can ask the children to splash and sing faster or slower, or change the song after each round. They can also ask the children to splash and sing with different body parts, such as their feet, elbows, or knees.
