Who
This game is designed forGuppies-levelswimmers — toddlers aged 3 to 5 years old. They should be able to float on their backs and fronts with assistance, and blow bubbles in the water. For safety and comfort, each child should wear alifejacket.
What
Splash and Dash is a fun, exciting race where toddlers kick their legs and splash the water as fast as they can. They follow the instructor’s commands and directions, trying to reach the finish line before the other teams.
How
The instructor divides the toddlers into two or more teams, depending on pool size and the number of participants. Assign each team a color or name, and give them a matching toy or flag to hold. Line up the teams at one end of the pool, facing the opposite end. Explain the rules and demonstrate how to kick and splash.
- The instructor says “Ready, set, go!” and blows a whistle to start the race.
- Toddlers kick their legs and splash the water as fast as they can, holding their toy or flag with one hand.
- They follow the instructor’s commands: “Go left!”, “Go right!”, “Go straight!”, or “Stop!”
- They breathe by lifting their heads out of the water and blowing bubbles when they go back in.
- The first team to reach the finish line at the other end of the pool wins.
Throughout the game, the instructor should cheer and encourage the toddlers, praising their efforts and achievements. Monitor safety and comfort, and adjust the difficulty and duration based on their abilities and needs.
