Buckethead

Core Skill

Water comfort, confidence building, and basic water play skills.

Who

Parent and child (Parent Tot).

What

A playful, water-based game involving pouring water over the head while shouting the name of the game.

How

1. **Setup:** Ensure the child is in a safe, shallow area (ideally 0 depth, or where they can sit/stand). If not possible, the parent should hold the child securely. The parent must be in the water next to or holding the child.<<2. **Play:** Fill a bucket with water and pour it over the child's head while smiling and shouting, "BUCKETHEAD!!"<<3. **Modification:** To make it gentler, modify the game by pouring water over the back of the child's head so that it does not go into their eyes.<<4. **Role Reversal:** Encourage the child to perform Buckethead on the parent. This helps build their confidence and ability to lead in a fun way. Keep encouraging them to yell, "BUCKETHEAD!"

Difficulties Instructors Might Face

The primary difficulty is managing the child's fear of water or being wet. Always approach this game with extreme enthusiasm and positive reinforcement. If the child resists, immediately switch to a less intense activity (like bubble blowing or splashing) to rebuild trust before trying again. Never force the interaction.
