Breaststroke Kick Dance – A Fun Group Game for Swim Lessons

All LevelsAges 6-12Breaststroke kickCoordinationRhythm

Name

Breaststroke Kick Dance

Core Skill

Breaststroke kick – specifically the whip kick motion, timing, and rhythm.

Who

Swimmers of any level who are learning or refining the breaststroke kick. Best for groups of 3–8 swimmers.

What

A fun, cooperative group game where swimmers form a circle, each placing one foot into the center, and perform the breaststroke kick together in a rhythmic "dance."

How

  1. Have swimmers stand in a circle, facing inward, holding hands or placing hands on each other's shoulders for balance.
  2. Each swimmer extends one foot into the center of the circle (like a "kickstand").
  3. On your signal, everyone performs the breaststroke kick motion with that foot — bending the knee, turning the foot out, and sweeping it around in a circular motion.
  4. Encourage swimmers to match the rhythm of the group, creating a synchronized "dance" effect.
  5. After 10–15 kicks, switch to the other foot and repeat.
  6. For added fun, try varying the speed or adding a count (e.g., "slow motion" or "fast kicks").
