Name

One-Liner

Swimmers submerge underwater while holding a kickboard at the surface, pretending to be a submarine, and try to stay suspended for at least 5 seconds.

Success Criteria

  1. Stay submerged underwater for at least 5 seconds while holding the kickboard at arm's length at the surface.
  2. Maintain a stable position with minimal kicking.
  3. For the bonus challenge: keep a water-filled cup or bucket balanced on the kickboard for 5 seconds without it falling off.

Failure Criteria

  1. Floating to the surface before 5 seconds.
  2. Letting the kickboard tip or sink.
  3. For the bonus challenge: the cup or bucket falls off before 5 seconds.

Core Skill

This challenge helps swimmers improve their ability to control buoyancy and hold their breath underwater. It also builds stability and body awareness while managing an additional challenge.

What

Each swimmer needs a kickboard. They hold the kickboard in front of their chest at arm's length, elbows locked or straight. While holding the kickboard at the surface, they submerge underwater on their back and pretend to be a submarine. They can kick gently if needed to maintain position. The challenge is to stay suspended underwater at arm's length below the kickboard, which remains at the surface.
