October 2024: Rotation Method for Swim Lessons

Training Module

Instructor Focus: Rotation Method

Establish the framework for how lessons should move. Keep swimmers going with minimal downtime where they "do nothing."

Automate Movement: Keep Swimmers Engaged

Rotating: Circle Swimming, but Short

  1. Stop at the flags or about 5 yards.
  2. 1st person on the right corner
  3. Everyone else line up along the lane line starting at the left corner.
  4. Streamline, do a short swim at surface, stop, move across the lane, return to line.

Build the Framework. Enforce It Daily. Foster Happy Parents and Productive Swimmers.

Avoid Confusion, Boredom, and Parent Anger

  1. Establish the rotation method framework for every class.
  2. Keep swimmers moving during the activities.
  3. Play during the challenges!

Rotate to the Wall, to the Instructor, Bench to Bench, or Circle Swim

With benches, in lanes, or open water.

The rotation method can be used in any circumstance.

Numerous ways to implement the Rotation Method.

Pick the appropriate one.

  1. Give feedback on every attempt
  2. Limit time swimmers do nothing
  3. Each activity should include multiple attempts

The rotation method is your key to effective lessons, excellent feedback, and a system that promotes deliberate practice.
