One-Liner

Participants randomly select a swimming skill from the Teaching Swimming workbook and explain and demonstrate how to perform it.

Success Criteria

Participants correctly identify and demonstrate at least two key elements of the randomly selected skill, showing clear understanding and accurate physical demonstration.

Failure Criteria

Participants cannot recall key elements of the skill, confuse them with another skill, or are unable to demonstrate the skill accurately or clearly.

Core Skill

This challenge tests the participants’knowledgeanddemonstrationof various swimming skills.

Who

Swim instructors or trainees in small groups of no more than 6 participants.

What

The participants will randomly select a swimming skill from the Teaching Swimming workbook and explain and show how to perform it.

How

  1. Break into small groups of no more than 6 participants.
  2. One person in the group uses theTeaching Swimming workbook. Flip to a random blue skill.
  3. Another person has to say 2 key elements to the skill AND physically demonstrate what it looks like.
  4. Rotate so that all skills are demonstrated or all people have gone 2 times.
  5. Have fun with the demonstrations; front float laying on floor; backstroke swimming on back on floor, etc.

Difficulties Instructors Might Face

  1. Participants not remembering the key elements of the skill or confusing them with another skill.
  2. Participants not being able to demonstrate the skill accurately or clearly, especially if the skill involves complex movements or coordination.
  3. Participants feeling embarrassed or awkward to perform the skill in front of others, especially if the skill is unfamiliar or challenging.
