Guppies Games and Goofiness: A Repeatable Lesson Plan for Young Swimmers

Lesson Plans

Guppies: Games and Goofiness

This lesson plan is the perfect bridge for swimmers between ages 2 and 4. It is designed to be repeatable and used over and over until you've built up a toolbox of custom games and activities for your specific pool layout.

Check out our in-depth guide to Guppies here:

Who Are Guppies?

Typically, Guppies are children who have been in Parent Tot classes for a few years but are still unsteady in the water or need a little more attention and care before they jump into learning front glides and going underwater. Guppies is an excellent class to bridge gaps in swimming lessons caused by fear or anxiety.

I recommend that you offer Guppies classes explicitly stating that it is primarily a "games and fun" class intended to build water comfort and listening skills for young swimmers who are not ready yet for formal swimming lessons.

How to Use This Lesson Plan

This plan is repeatable. Use it as a foundation, then adapt and expand your activities as you learn what works best for your group. The goal is to build a toolbox of games and goofiness that keeps young swimmers engaged and comfortable.
